Zeolite Effects On High Zonulin Levels

Zeolite effects on high zonulin levels

What is zonulin?

Zeolite effects on high zonulin levels may help the body recover from increased intestinal permeability or leaky gut.

Zonulin is a protein in charge of monitoring the permeability between the epithelial cells’ junctions in the gastrointestinal tract. It is a biomarker that indicates the level of intestinal permeability. If zonulin levels are high, intestinal permeability is unstable. That may lead to a leaky gut disorder.

When the normal gut barrier is disrupted, increased permeability occurs, and zonulin levels climb high. Due to a high level of zonulin, the gut leakage may allow the toxins, microorganisms, and pathogens in the gut to cross the gut barrier and enter into the blood stream.

Zonulin impacts the deterioration of the tight junctions between the intestinal epithelial cells. As a result, this deterioration may lead to several health issues like type one diabetes, asthma, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Until now, there have been many studies on zonulin as a regulator of intestinal barrier function.

Zeolite effects on high zonulin levels could be the answer

Manfred Lamprecht and colleagues conducted a test at the Institute of Physiological Chemistry, at the Medical University of Graz, Austria. In a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study, 56 highly-trained athletes in high-endurance aerobics exercise participated. The participants were women and men with similar body fat. None were cigarette smokers, and their age ranged between 20 and 50.

Every day, during a 12-week study, 28 consumed 1.85 g of zeolite clinoptilolite, and 28 were on a placebo study. After 12 weeks, the zonulin level in the zeolite group decreased by almost 30%.

Zeolite effects on high zonulin levels could be the answer to leaky gut disorders. Sooner or later, a leaky gut leads to endotoxemia — the release of endotoxins into the bloodstream. In addition, a leaky gut can increase vulnerability to infectious and autoimmune diseases, due to the absorption of pathogens/toxins into the body’s tissues and bloodstream. Zeolite has shown that it can help the body modulate intestinal wall integrity by impacting zonulin release.

It is well known that zeolite clinoptilolite reduces oxidative and inflammatory action in the gut. It does so by binding oxidants, free radicals, and toxins. Clearly, zeolite could be an excellent link to better human health and wellbeing management.
